Dr Isabel Hanson wins Medical Award

Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council is proud to announce that Dr Isabel Hanson, who was been working as a GP Registrar, with Gandangara Health Services since February this year has been announced as the winner of the RACGP 2021 General Practitioner (NSW/ACT) in Training of the Year Award.

Dr Isabel says she is “absolutely delighted to receive the RACGP GP Registrar award for NSW/ACT” and is “deeply moved” to have been nominated and supported by Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council in the award. “I am so proud to work here and to be learning from you all.”

The Award, conferred by the RACGP, recognises GP excellence in:
• understanding and commitment to general practice
• service to the public
• involvement in training and continuing professional development

Melissa Williams, Chief Executive Officer, Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council says it is wonderful for Dr Isabel Hanson to be recognised as an extraordinary GP in Training of the Year, NSW by RACGP.

“A key goal for Gandangara Health Service is to cocreate a greater patient experience in their health and wellbeing journey which is a focus of Dr Hanson’s work”, says Ms Williams.

Dr Hanson concurs, stating that “when working with the wonderful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in Liverpool, serving our patients is not just about treating their presenting symptoms on the day, it is about seeing the whole person in their context. When we see and treat people this way, we contribute to lifelong health and wellbeing, not only curing illness.”

Dr Hanson said that she is “proud to work with the Gandangara Health Services team” and that she “hopes to continue serving the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community for the rest of [her] career.”
